What started as a “work for hire” experience for Lyric Richardson & MC Jonny T (JTLR) has grown into a full-blown movement and initiative that celebrates women of all sizes and those who love them the most. Initially intended to be an original song for a group of online plus-size models and personalities, it did not take long for additional concepts to emerge and materialize into a commercial release of The Thickies; distributed by Digidi and the Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music.
“The song functions as the soundtrack for the Team Thickies line of apparel and merchandise. Until last year’s Chubby Girl Swag release, it had been years since we (JTLR) released a song to celebrate the plus-size community. The resources and timing came together to make this happen. The Thickies is a sequel to last year’s song. We invite you all to the Team Thickies & Chubby Girl Swag celebration. We’ve got something for the men with dad bods coming soon.” said MC Jonny T, a popular recording artist who is involved with the launch of Team Thickies.
Fatimah Mirbaha is the President/CEO of Team Thickies. She states that “Team Thickies stands for the empowerment of women who own their strengths and the people that support them. We want to celebrate the contribution and beauty of plus-size bodies. Team Thickies is a female-forward brand intended for plus-size women and individuals who support their causes. We are inclusive of all adults, regardless of culture or gender.”
Team Thickies t-shirt sizes are available up to 5XL. Other available items are tote bags, towels, backpacks, drawstring bags, sports bottles, and stickers. The forthcoming fall apparel line will include sweatshirts and hoodies. For those who are interested in representing the brand, Team Thickies offers an ambassador program.
